Chelsea Hotel, a play based on the Leonard Cohen song, starts Feb. 8 at the Firehall Theatre. Foremost in the cast is singer-writer, Adrian Glynn.

The tenth Wachu Concert Series show is now Feb. 28 at the Biltmore. The talent line-up is the same: Ali Milner, Star Captains, David Ward, Olav.

Liquor Kings, with occasional David M accompanist Ed Hurrell on bass, has released 100 Proof Rock And Roll.

Wonder what happened to These Kids Wear Crowns? The young Chilliwack band blasted out of the starting gate with a promotion by EMI and then seemed to fall silent. The band has been touring, Australia to name one territory, and will open for A Simple Plan on its current tour. A new single, “This Party Never Stops,” is out Fen. 11.

The sixth album by Rodney Decroo, Allegheny, will be his first on his own Barge Records label. Scheduled for Feb.25, Allegheny will come as a s 12″ vinyl or online, but not as a CD. It can be sampled via download now. The collection of what Decroo calls poem-songs will be launched at a gig at Gallery Gachet , Feb. 25.

Although it has begun its second album, SSRI has taken time out to make a video of “Clay Face, Meat Boots.”

The next Elias album, Fossils,  is available Feb. 14. Before that, the band opens for Hey Ocean, Feb. 10 at the Venue.

A Winter Romance In No Fun City (Railway Club, Feb. 7), Be Good Tanyas (still celebrating the reissue of its first album, Blue Horse, Vogue Theatre, Feb. 11),  Locarno and Babe Gurr (Harrison Memorial Centre, Feb. 11), flashy flamenco guitarist Doug Towle (Cellar Jazz Club, Feb. 12), Grace Under Pressure (Roxy, Feb. 14), Versus The Nothing (kicks off the band’s first tour of the year, Joe’s Apartment, Feb.17).

Bluebird North has the much-traveled Michael Friedman among its four songwriters, Feb. 7 at the Roundhouse. Friedman is one of those Vancouver-based performers who has a bigger profile in Europe, where he tours most of the time. Lest we forget: Friedman is joined by Laine Henderson, Deborah Holland and versatile Cole Petrone.

This week’s Tall Poppy Cafe showcase at Joe’s Apartment is Set To Go, Citrus Burn and Yes Bear, Feb. 11.

Marcus Mosely’s new gospel group, logically called the Marcus Mosely Chorale, pays tribute to Black History Month, Feb. 10 at St. Andrews Wesley United Church. The show is called Stayed On Freedom and the chorale will be joined by, among others, The Sojourners and Leon Bibb.
